We developed Soundlab to celebrate the opening of the Leica Gallery Sao Paulo and 100 years of beautiful photography made through the lens of Leica cameras. Since we couldn't use the most important photographs ever made with this iconic camera, we recreated the sounds surrounding that decisive moment. Through extensive documentation and a little bit of imagination, we recorded, using binaural technology, what it would've felt like to be behind the viewfinder of a Leica camera, about to create one of the most legendary images in history.
People visiting the Leica Gallery could learn more about the backstory of the photographs and experience the immersive sound with headphones. We also created 100 boxes with the sounds recorded on vinyl. The box was shaped like a Leica leather case and accompanied typographic posters, that just like every Leica camera until today, were 100% handcrafted.
